Let Gmail Handles All of Your Mail

1 Jul 2009 In: Google

I love Gmail! Not only because it’s fast, but it manages all of my emails in one place! For example, at my school, Cal State L.A., uses web-based Microsoft Outlook to handle its emails and gives only about 10MB of space to each email account. Everytime I wanted to check my @calstatela.edu mail, I have to go to mymail.calstatela.edu

It’s not that it’s not easy to remember, but imagine that I have 10+ emails to keep track, and since it’s only has 10MB of space, I barely use it other than if for some reason my school send notifications to that email. I would imagine if I use it and there’s an incoming important e-mail, but my inbox is full?? Lastly, it got a bunch of spams and requires me to use IE to use the better version of it..

So, here’s 3 simple steps to add my @calstatela.edu email to my Gmail:

At this point, I could send email as @calstatela.edu from Gmail! But, I also have to set it up such that incoming mail to my @calstatela.edu is not stored there, but forwarded directly to my Gmail. That means your inbox size is the same as the inbox size that is provided by Gmail (which as now, is about 7300MB and counting..) Here’s another simple 3 steps to do it in Outlook:

I hope that this post is helpful and make our academic life to be more productive with Gmail!

Note: You might wonder on why I kept saying to my @gmail but you always see @laksmono.com in these images. I’m using Google Apps to manage my domain, which by definition is a set of Google applications, where one of them is Gmail (which handles the email part) for organization, but these steps are exactly the same as if it’s Gmail. Instead of forwarding to your_name@yourdomain.com, forward it to your_name@gmail.com to get all of the Gmail features! If you have your own domain, then you need to use Google Apps, which should be on it’s own tutorial.. :)

Today’s Sabbath Bible Verse

Peace and Joy

1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

9Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

~ Romans 5:1-11 ~

Very deep and meaningful, I hope that you also enjoy it.. Happy Sabbath! :)

How Should Christians Answer?

6 Jun 2009 In: Christianity, Faith

I’m about to go to sleep, but I keep thinking the question of one person in the fellowship meeting last night. The question was basically simple, she doesn’t know on how could she share about God to the scientists or historians who are in most cases always uses facts and their knowledge to disprove God’s existence?

I contributed to the discussion by sharing my opinions, but I haven’t got the chance to get to the end, because some misunderstanding by some people of what I’m trying to say. I said that I think believing in God wasn’t the real problem these days, because most of the people, even if they are an atheist, do believe that there must be at least a super-being who started everything. And I said that the more difficult problem is to understand which of the believes of God, is the right believes? Wait, what do you mean by that?

I started with the analogy of using the Holy Bible. I said that Holy Bible, is an amazing book, which of course everyone agree, not only that it could save people, but it also kills people. All Christians believe to one book, the Holy Bible, but why are there many of the Christian denominations? Obviously, the answer is because there are many ways the people interprets the Bible. So I said that the more difficult problem is to find the right interpretation of the Bible rather than just knowing that God (or super-being) exists. Between 1905 and 1291 for example, the Holy Bible is being used to justify killing by the crusaders. Then by the puritans in the American history. Then the witch hunting (DO YOU KNOW THAT: The way they test if you’re a witch is to drawn you, if you’re not drawn when being drawn, then you’re a witch, if you’re drawn to death, then you’re not)

So in most cases, people will not be like, “I don’t believe that God exist (or the super-being)”, but instead, they will most likely to believe in the deism approach (which also called the intelligent design). Which in my opinion is the only believe that could make everything fits together to the scientific facts. I remembered one time when I was discussing a similar topic with my friend who does not believe in the similar idea, that we basically is just another accident that’s made by God. It’s either by his fart or cough, then the universe is created. The argument that is made by many Christians is that if that is the case, then our life will not have any purpose, which in my opinion is correct. But I think by just saying that, it doesn’t mean that would add any insights to the discussion!

If we analyze both of the arguments further, we should see that both of the arguments have the same probability of being correct! Christians may defend their argument as well as the counter-parts, but please, look on the others perspective (i.e. Christian, try to see from your counter-part believe, and vice-versa), what happened if at the end of the world, your counter-part’s opinion is the truth?

However, since both of the arguments have the same probability of being correct, I do not believe in the accident argument because that would make my life meaningless. Either way, if at the end of the world, and at the end of my life in fact is truly meaningless, but at least I have enjoyed a meaningful life.

This is based of the UE3 “Deck” Level. The Level Artist put this together in just 5 days using the APEX destruction tools. The destruction is non-game play affecting but adds a lot to the level and provides a much better gaming experience. It would have been easy to add game-play affecting destruction as can be seen in the test level.

At the perfect timing! I hosted a Google Stuy Break at Cal State L.A. The purpose of the event was just to make everyone relax before getting to the finals week. Google wants to make sure that all of the hard working students got their stomach filled up and ready for the big battle! Thanks Google! Good luck everyone, and congratulation to the class of 2009!
