Learning from the past, and moving toward the future
Religion and philosophy are such an interesting topic. I’ve always been curious and want to know more about many religions, their teachings, believes, and perspectives of the believers about their religion. It is difficult however, because it may be offensive for some to ask. However, I believe that by learning more about many religions, not only that I would increase my awareness about many religions, rather than rumors about the religion, but also can learn the good things out of it.
This summer, I’m taking my last General Education course in religion. The course is titled as the Introduction to the Comparative Religion. We learned the eight major religions in the world: the Primal Religion, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. I still remembered the first question that the professor asked in class, “If God is powerful, can God create something that is more powerful than God?” Obviously, whether your answer is Can or Cannot would be wrong if you believe that God is all powerful because if God can create something that is more powerful than God, then God isnot that all powerful. If God cannot create something more powerful, then God isn’t that powerful either. But in this class, we’re not going to answer such philosophical question, but rather learning many different religions, which hopefully at the end of the course, be able to compare critically many different religions.
Since I want to keep the record of my works in this course, I uploaded my papers:
Although myself is a Christian, I didn’t write my papers based on my knowledge of Christianity but rather references on facts about the religion itself to avoid bias.
The midterm and final paper are answering to the questions posted by the professor, but it should be readable without even knowing the question at the first place. Finally, I only did these in a few hours, so I’m sorry for the broken transition, grammar errors, etc. Comments are welcome
California State University at Los Angeles is a public institution, funded by the state government, does not affiliated with any religious organizations.
